Dr. Bishoy Zakhary is a highly accomplished intensivist with extensive experience in critical care medicine and a specialization in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at OHSU, Dr. Zakhary also serves as the Medical Director of the ECMO Program. His clinical appointments include attending intensivist in the Medical ICU, the Cardiovascular ICU, and the ECMO service.
Throughout his career, Bishoy has been a dedicated leader in medical education, with a particular focus on ECMO. His pioneering work includes developing the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) ECMO Curriculum and ECMO Practitioner Certification Exam. This commitment to education extends internationally where his expertise has been sought out as an invited instructor for numerous ELSO conferences and courses in locations such as the Hong Kong, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, and Brazil.
Dr. Zakhary's expertise is further demonstrated by his extensive publication record and his role as an invited speaker and reviewer for prestigious medical journals. He has authored or co-authored diverse publications and book chapters on topics such as ECMO management, Guidelines for CoVID-19 ECMO provision, and pulmonary embolism response teams. His prolific work in publications and global expert speaker solidifies his standing as a leading expert in his field.
Dr. Mina Zakhary is a distinguished radiologist with a strong background in emergency and breast imaging. A full-time partner at Scripps Clinic Medical Group, Dr. Zakhary is an Evening Hawk at Scripps Memorial Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center/Neuro Center of Excellence. He completed his radiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania followed by a fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at UCSD.
His professional contributions include significant leadership and teaching roles. Dr. Zakhary has served as the Division Head of Inpatient Radiology and currently heads the SCMG Radiology Finances. He has also been a clinical instructor and Chief MSK Fellow at UCSD. His teaching experience extends to lecturing on radiology for medical residents and organizing courses for radiology technologists. In addition to his clinical work, he has been an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Surgery.
Dr. Zakhary's research and presentations have been featured at major international conferences, including the European Congress of Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America. His publications cover a range of topics, including diagnostic imaging features of musculoskeletal conditions and the etiology of intracranial hemorrhages in infants.
